PASOS Parent Graduation May 2018

Parent Initiatives

Service and support does not stop at school. UTRGV Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) believes that families are crucial to a students success in K-12 and University.  School coordinators are charged with holding regular parent meetings that educate and empower families to create and support a college and career going culture at home.

Partners

PASOS

The Texas Valley Communities Foundation has been contracted as a partner to facilitate informational workshops at each of the target schools.  Last year, the Parent Academy for Success of Our Schools (PASOS) program provided over 200 hours worth of training and guidance to cohort schools and reached over 400 families.  This year, we are doubling our efforts and will reach out to new families throughout the region.

Feedback

UTRGV Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate (GEAR UP) openly engages parents to better understand and support the needs of our cohort families.  Coordinators work diligently to establish a Parent Leadership Council that will advise central GEAR UP staff on grant decisions.
