How is a student matched with an internship?
Being matched to an internship site is a multi-step process. First, the UT Health Houston internship team reviews the initial internship application. If the applicant meets the internship eligibility criteria, the next step is a background check. The internship applicant will receive the background check link by email.
After successful completion of the background check, the student is tentatively matched with an internship site. The student’s resume is then sent to the internship site for review. Site personnel review the resume and decide whether to move forward with an interview. A student is only considered officially matched to an internship site after successfully completing the interview.
Are students eligible to apply for more than one GET PHIT internship?
No. Students may only complete one GET PHIT internship.
What are the daily tasks of the internship?
Daily tasks for GET PHIT interns are determined by each individual internship site. Undergraduate students with less training may help with data cleaning or database development. More advanced students may have opportunities to use data visualization and data programming tools.
If I have not attended a Bootcamp, am I still eligible for an internship?
Yes. All students enrolled in a GET PHIT educational institution who have a strong interest in public health informatics and data science are eligible to apply for the paid internship program. Students from underrepresented minority populations are strongly encouraged to apply.
Students who have earned a Certificate of Completion from a GET PHIT Bootcamp have documented training that may help them successfully complete a GET PHIT internship.
