In-Person Consultations
When most students think about what a visit to the writing center might consist of, they likely picture the individual consultation. At the UTRGV Writing Center, individual consultations are one-on-one meetings between a student and a peer tutor.
Individual consultations are designed to address the student’s areas of concern while also providing support and direction based on writing in all disciplines and at all levels. Individual consultations are based on foundational and emergent theory from writing center studies and composition studies, and include:
- Thirty-minute sessions on assignment clarification, invention, and brainstorming, development, and organization.
- Thirty-minute sessions on purpose, audience, and genre.
- Tips for incorporating sources into your writing and for documenting sources effectively.
- Tips for using images, video clips, podcasts, and other media as a part of your writing project.
Students may meet for up to two, non-sequential sessions per day, 4 sessions per week, and 60 sessions per semester. During busier times of the semester, the Writing Center may defer to students visiting for the first time.
