The UTRGV Family Medicine Residency Program recognizes the importance of resident well-being throughout training. We strive to foster a supportive learning environment that promotes wellness, connection, teamwork, and access to resources when additional support is needed.
Resident wellness and support include:
- 5th Friday Wellness Events during months with a fifth Friday
- Team-building activities and opportunities for residents to connect outside of the clinical setting
- International Potluck, cultural, holiday, and seasonal celebrations
- Recognition of resident and faculty birthdays, milestones, and special occasions
- Activities promoting mental health awareness and well-being
- Access to various mental health and wellness resources and services
- Support for residents who may require a leave of absence, in accordance with applicable institutional and program policies
- Monitoring of resident work hours to support compliance with program and accreditation requirements
- Fatigue mitigation strategies and resources to promote resident and patient safety
- Opportunities for residents to provide feedback regarding wellness, workload, and the learning environment
