Resident Leadership
The UTRGV Family Medicine Residency Program encourages residents to take an active role in the program, represent their peers, share their perspectives, and participate in program decision-making. Leadership opportunities include:
- Participation in the resident-elected Resident Leadership Council (RLC)
- Resident-selected Chief Resident and class representatives
- Resident participation in the Program Executive Committee (PEC)
- Opportunities to represent fellow residents and provide feedback on the resident experience
- Resident-led social media highlighting resident life, program activities, and community engagement
- Participation in program initiatives, committees, and quality improvement efforts
- Involvement in recruitment, community outreach, and program events
- Opportunities to collaborate with faculty and program leadership
Professional Development
The UTRGV Family Medicine Residency Program supports residents in pursuing professional and academic opportunities that align with their individual interests and career goals. Residents are encouraged to take an active role in their professional development and make use of the resources and opportunities available throughout their training.
Opportunities include:
- Research and scholarly activities
- Local, regional, and national conferences
- Presentations, posters, and other scholarly work
- Collaboration with faculty, fellow residents, and medical students
- Quality improvement and academic initiatives
- Faculty mentorship
- Continuing Medical Education (CME) stipends to support eligible educational and professional development activities
