Application Requirements

Applications for all UTRGV Graduate Medical Education residency programs will be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service ( ERAS) offered by the American Association of Medical Colleges ( AAMC). We DO NOT accept applications outside of ERAS. For more information regarding the application process please contact your dean's office or visit the  ERAS website.

All applicants for any of our UTRGV residency programs must:

  • Hold an appropriate degree for educational training from an LCME accredited or AOA medical school in the United States or Canada
  • Have a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates ( ECFMG) if a foreign medical degree is held
  • Subject to security background checks before beginning residency training
  • Comply with the UTRGV GME Resident and Fellow Recruitment Policy

In addition to these institutional requirements, each program has specific eligibility requirements that must be satisfied. Questions about the process should be directed to each program. For a list of programs see the  GME Program Directory.
