Why UTRGV?
I chose the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley because it is prospering more than ever with so much impact on students, including myself, and the community. I wanted to be part of this university because it offers a wide range of studies, programs and opportunities all in my hometown.
What made you decide on your current major?
I have always been interested in the field of medicine/health science. After volunteering at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in different departments, I have developed a passion in becoming a physician assistant. Gaining a Bachelor of Science in Biology is a step closer in my career pathway.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After graduation, I plan to continue my education in pursuing a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies, with plans of passing the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE).
What do you like most about UTRGV?
UTRGV feels like home. I’ve been granted many opportunities and encountered challenges along this journey toward future, but the experiences I’ve had and friendships I’ve made have all been worth it. The students, professors and faculty are beyond amazing in bettering our future and careers. Their dedication to their fields have been a great inspiration to others and myself.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero, to me, is having pride for our colors, orange and grey, and it is an honor to represent the Rio Grande Valley. For the past two years at UTRGV, it has been a great experience and something that I will never forget. As I soon get ready to walk the stage for graduation, I know that I will always be a part of the Vaquero family.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Working for the P-16 Outreach Department has been the greatest opportunity that UTRGV has granted me. Through this department I was given the opportunity to serve my community as a mentor in the Mother-Daughter Program (MDP). Being able to assist middle school girls along with their mothers in improving their relationships and boosting their self-esteem has been inspiring.
What are a few of your favorite books?
One of my favorite books is “Esperanza Rising” by Pam Munoz Ryan because it has allowed me to chase my dreams and taught me to never give up, despite challenges I may undergo. My second favorite is “Night” by Ellie Wiesel. This book showed me how society has changed in drastic ways and gives today’s generation an opportunity to make a difference in the world.

My playlist is composed of different genres, my favorites being country and today’s hits.
