Why UTRGV?
Aside from the affordability, UTRGV gave me the chance to experience dorm life and build my own independence without an extremely long drive home. I can have classes in Edinburg and enjoy another city and still see my family on the weekends.

What made you decide on your current major?
Writing took control of my life back in sixth grade, but I never really gave thought into how I could make it my life’s career. It wasn’t until I was working on an assignment that involved dissecting news stories and how truthful they were that I realized that writing news was the outlet I was searching for.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
Both the Edinburg and Brownsville locations are great in their unique way. Edinburg offers a close proximity to nearly every building by connecting them all through the Bronc Trail, which makes walking around straight to the point. Brownsville, while more strewn about, has so many beautiful locations that make the longer walks worth the steps.

What are some of your favorite study spots on campus?
I really enjoy the third floor of the campus library; it’s quiet and the few distractions help me speed through my coursework. Some favorites of mine are the Health Affairs buildings. While there tends to be more people there, it’s still a nice environment to get work done.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
My older sister went into the college experience as a UTB/TSC student and graduated from UTRGV. She got to go through all the drastic changes along with the university, but she never let anything slow her down. I think about her persistence often - to know that we are going through the same institution motivates me to do my best.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
My courses have helped me realize new perspectives and I get to peek into how people around me live, even if it’s only for a few months. Getting to meet new people and hear their stories has left a lifelong impact on me.

What are a few of your favorite books?
“Middlesex” is the book I usually first think of when it comes to favorites because I enjoyed the historical aspect mixed with the story of the main character’s family. “Where You Go is not Who You’ll Be” helped me deal with the never-ending stress behind the months leading up to college admission season in high school, so I consider it a favorite.

What’s in your playlist right now?
Some of my favorite artists are Amber Run and SIAMÉS, but orchestrated soundtracks and 2000s pop will always be in my heart and playlists.
