International Women's Day
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley held a celebration of International Women’s Day, a global celebration since 1975 of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women past, present and future.
International Student Events
International Meet and Greet
The International Meet & Greet event takes place in Edinburg and Brownsville campus. UTRGV has 774 international students representing 60 countries, including Mexico, India, China, Brazil, Venezuela and Bangladesh.
International Student Convocation
The International Student Convocation served as a refresher for F-1 federal immigration regulations and also will allow you to gain more information about different immigration scenarios that you may encounter during your academic career.
International Education Week
International Education Week International Education Week is a weeklong series that is meant to expose UTRGV community and culture around the world. There are different events scheduled during this week and they are focused to recognize international education and cultural understanding. This event falls under the UTRGV office of Global Engagement and its partnerships with (International Admissions and Student Services, International Programs and Partnerships, and the Language Institute).
Lunar New Year
Lunar New Year was celebrated on the UTRGV Edinburg Campus this year. About 1.5 billion people around the world were prepared to Welcome The Year of the Rat. It's all about spending time with family and friends, feasting on foods with symbolic meanings, gift-giving and good wishes. The lunar calendar has a 12-year cycle with a different animal each year. International Admissions and Students Services celebrate Lunar New Year to bring the world to UTRGV and to expose our students to other cultures, customs, and traditions.
Holi and Dol Purnima
Holi is a famous ancient Hindu festival known as the Festival of Spring, the Festival of Colors, or the Festival of Love. We are glad to collaborate with the Indian Student Association (ISA) and Bangladesh Student Association (BSA) to celebrate the arrival of Spring, the blossoming of love, and for many.
Coffee and Donuts
Coffee and Donuts event is spread out throughout the year and takes place in Edinburg and Brownsville campus. This event is a social event that allows international students to network with other colleagues and interact with International Admissions Staff. This event is two times per month, coffee and donuts are served during this event so that international students can enjoy.
Thanksgiving Luncheon
Every year International Students gather in both the Edinburg campus and Brownsville campus to celebrate a well-known U.S tradition, Thanksgiving. International Admissions and Students Services (ISS) invites International students at UTRGV to celebrate this U.S tradition.
Graduation
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley holds commencement every year for graduating students. International Students partake in event to celebrate their academic achievement.
Recruitment Fair
International Admissions and Students Services participates in Recruitment Fairs to recruit high school students from different countries to join UTRGV community.
Holiday Exchange Program
International Admissions and Student Services (ISS) organizes every year the Holiday Exchange Program where UTRGV families or some affiliated organizations host international students for their Thanksgiving & Winter Break celebrations. We are thankful to have this wonderful program and have our students celebrate this important holiday among family and friends.
