I Am a Buddy Program
The “I am a Buddy” program has been created to welcome international students and assist them upon arrival to the Rio Grande Valley. The assigned Buddies are familiar with the student life and are looking forward to helping international students get comfortable and acquainted with our campus and surrounding community. This is a great opportunity to meet, socialize, and create networks with students and future professionals from all over the world.
How the program works?
Through the “I am a Buddy“ program, incoming international students are matched with current students prior to starting their studies. Incoming students are matched by campus and are assigned a buddy for their initial semester.
What can new students expect from their Buddy?
- Connect them with a current UTRGV student before arriving to campus.
- Feel welcomed to their new educational and social environment.
- Receive follow constant communication throughout the semester regarding services, events, and more.
- Explore cultural differences in studying and living in the Rio Grande Valley.
- Join large group events with domestic and international students at UTRGV and the community.
At the end of the semester, we would have the students to complete a short evaluation of the buddy and the program to better serve our international students.
