Scholarships

International Student Financial Aid

Financial Aid

International Student Services and Financial Aid Office is pleased to announce a grant available for international students with financial needs.  This grant will be available for International Students who are enrolled in Summer.

Recipients of this grant will be awarded $1,000 for the upcoming summer session(s). Program funding is contingent upon the availability of funds and will be awarded until funds are exhausted.

To qualify for the grant, students need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at UTRGV.
  • Have attended the Spring semester at UTRGV previous to the summer session and will not graduate in May of the same year.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Meet the UTRGV satisfactory academic progress (SAP) requirements.
  • Be enrolled for at least six credit hours, i.e., three credit hours on each summer session or six credit hours on one of the summer sessions.

Scholarship information application will be emailed to all qualified international students during the Spring semester. Instructions on how to apply will be included in that email communication.

 

Good Neighbor Scholarship

Good Neighbor Scholarship

The Good Neighbor Scholarship (GNS) Program is designed to encourage academically talented students from the countries of the Western (American) hemisphere (other than Cuba and the U.S.)  to pursue higher education in the State of Texas.  The award exempts the eligible student from payment of tuition for 12 months, beginning with the fall term or semester. This scholarship is administered through Texas Global on behalf of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

This scholarship opens in February of each year, and information will be sent to all qualified students via email.

To qualify for this scholarship, students need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be a native-born citizen and resident of an eligible country
  • Were born in and are current residents of a nation of the Western Hemisphere other than Cuba or the United States
  • Intend to return to the eligible country upon completion of the program of study
  • Not be a dual citizen of an eligible county and the U.S.A.
  • Have resided in the Western Hemisphere for at least five years
  • Not be a member of the Communist Party
  • Have filed a selective service statement of registration status with their institution
  • Be recommended for exemption by a participating institution that the applicant currently attends or will attend
  • Have met the basic scholastic requirements for admission to said institution
  • Be selected by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for exemption.

I am a Buddy 

The “I am Buddy” program has been created to welcome international students and assist them upon arrival to the Rio Grande Valley. The assigned Buddies are familiar with student life and are looking forward to helping international students get comfortable and acquainted with our campus and the town. This is a great opportunity to meet, socialize, and create networks with students and future professionals from all over the world.

To qualify for this scholarship, students need to meet the following requirements:

The scholarship can range between $500- $700 per semester.

  • Must be enrolled in Spring 2025.
  • Must have completed 12 semester hours (Undergraduate) or 9 semester hours ( Graduate)
  • 2.75 GPA or better as an Undergraduate Student or 3.25 or better as a Graduate Student.
  • Be in good academic/disciplinary standing.

This scholarship opens three times a year for each semester: Spring, Fall and Summer. Information will be sent to all qualified students via email.

  • Summer application will be sent via email every May of each year.
  • Fall application will be sent via email every June of each year.
  • Spring application will be sent via email every November of each year.

 

 

Florence Terry Griswold

Florence Terry Griswold Scholarship I: $2,500

 

The Florence Terry Griswold Scholarship I is awarded annually by the Pan American Round Tables of Texas. This Scholarship, named in honor of the founder of the Pan American Round Table, assists a female student from one of the Pan American countries (other than the United States) in pursuing her studies in the state of Texas. The Florence Terry Griswold Scholarship I is a grant of at least $2,500 for one year of study at a state-supported.

Application deadline February 28, 2025.

Applicant Qualifications

  • An applicant must be a female student who is a native citizen of one of the Pan American countries (other than the United
  • States) defined as those countries that comprise the Organization of American States (OAS)/Pan American Union. She must
  • Applicant must hold a bachelor’s or equivalent degree and be furthering her work on a master’s or equivalent degree at a state-supported
  • college or university in Texas.
  • Preference will be given to an applicant who will return to her native country and put her U.S. studies and training to use after completion of her graduate degree

Application Requirements

  • Completed application form.
  • Two letters of recommendation, one from the student’s academic advisor and one from another professor at the state-supported institution in which she is currently enrolled. The letters should describe the applicant’s
  • academic ability, potential for success in her chosen field, and desirability as a candidate for the scholarship.
  • An official cumulative transcript through Fall 2024 semester.
  • The Scholarship Committee Chairman must receive the completed application form, two letters of recommendation, and an official cumulative transcript postmarked no later than February 28, 2025.
  • PARTT Application may be submitted using the PARTT website. Submissions may not be faxed or e-mailed as they must be suitable for photocopying.
