International Student Financial Aid
International Student Services and Financial Aid Office is pleased to announce a grant available for international students with financial needs. This grant will be available for International Students who are enrolled in Summer. Recipients of this grant will be awarded $1,000 for the upcoming summer session(s). Program funding is contingent upon the availability of funds and will be awarded until funds are exhausted. To qualify for the grant, students need to meet the following requirements:

Good Neighbor Scholarship
Good Neighbor Scholarship The Good Neighbor Scholarship (GNS) Program is designed to encourage academically talented students from the countries of the Western (American) hemisphere (other than Cuba and the U.S.) to pursue higher education in the State of Texas. The award exempts the eligible student from payment of tuition for 12 months, beginning with the fall term or semester. This scholarship is administered through Texas Global on behalf of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. This scholarship opens in February of each year, and information will be sent to all qualified students via email. |
To qualify for this scholarship, students need to meet the following requirements:
- Be a native-born citizen and resident of an eligible country
- Were born in and are current residents of a nation of the Western Hemisphere other than Cuba or the United States
- Intend to return to the eligible country upon completion of the program of study
- Not be a dual citizen of an eligible county and the U.S.A.
- Have resided in the Western Hemisphere for at least five years
- Not be a member of the Communist Party
- Have filed a selective service statement of registration status with their institution
- Be recommended for exemption by a participating institution that the applicant currently attends or will attend
- Have met the basic scholastic requirements for admission to said institution
- Be selected by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for exemption.

I am a Buddy
The “I am Buddy” program has been created to welcome international students and assist them upon arrival to the Rio Grande Valley. The assigned Buddies are familiar with student life and are looking forward to helping international students get comfortable and acquainted with our campus and the town. This is a great opportunity to meet, socialize, and create networks with students and future professionals from all over the world.
To qualify for this scholarship, students need to meet the following requirements:
The scholarship can range between $500- $700 per semester.
- Must be enrolled in Spring 2025.
- Must have completed 12 semester hours (Undergraduate) or 9 semester hours ( Graduate)
- 2.75 GPA or better as an Undergraduate Student or 3.25 or better as a Graduate Student.
- Be in good academic/disciplinary standing.
This scholarship opens three times a year for each semester: Spring, Fall and Summer. Information will be sent to all qualified students via email.
- Summer application will be sent via email every May of each year.
- Fall application will be sent via email every June of each year.
- Spring application will be sent via email every November of each year.
Florence Terry Griswold
Florence Terry Griswold Scholarship I: $2,500 (one award)
For a woman who is a citizen of a Pan American country (other than the United States) and is pursuing a graduate degree at a state-sponsored college or university in Texas. More than $2,500 may be awarded in years when funds are available.

Florence Terry Griswold Scholarship II: $2,000 (one award)
For a woman who is a native U.S. citizen and a legal Texas resident, is classified as a graduate student or a college faculty member engaged in the specialized study of the languages or cultures of a Pan American country will study or research a Pan American country (other than the United States). More than $2,000 may be awarded in years when funds are available.
