The Department of Housing and Residence Life depends on UTRGV students to assist with many of the programs and services that we offer. Joining the student team is an opportunity to serve the UTRGV on campus community and learn transferable workplace skills.

Join the Team – Resident Assistant Program

Resident Assistants (RAs) are students that live and work in all residence hall communities. They provide guidance to residents living in their community and exemplify UTRGV culture. They are leaders in their residential communities as well as in the UTRGV community.

The RA selection process takes place every Spring Semester for the following academic year.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing within UT System
  • Pass Criminal Background Check

* Additional academic and behavioral requirements will be shared at the information sessions as well as on the application form.

Benefits of Serving as a Resident Assistant:

Leadership Development: RAs will gain valuable transferable skills during their tenure by connecting with departments, leaders, and community members as ambassadors for UTRGV and serving as peer mentors for their assigned residents.

  • Room: RAs receive a room at no charge as remuneration.
  • Board: RAs will receive a Dining Plan at no charge.

* The Financial Aid Office must consider waivers when determining financial aid eligibility which may result in a student’s financial aid package being affected. Please meet with a financial aid coordinator to discuss your individual circumstances.

Timeline:

Candidates will receive emails to their UTRGV email throughout the process updating them on the status of their candidacy. Email is the primary method of communication during this process.

Step:1 Submit Online Application

  • All candidates must attend an information for their application to be considered complete.

Step:2 Online Application Form

  • All candidates must submit an online application form with all supporting documents.

Step:3 Interviews

  • Selected candidates will be asked to attend an interview. The interview format (group, individual, online, in person, etc.) is to be determined by the Housing & Residence Life staff.

Candidates that are selected will need to attend RA Training/ Move-in starting mid-August. First time Resident Assistants are encouraged to prioritize RA training during this time.
