Mission
Provide our student artists with the education and tools in the classroom, studios, and in production to allow them to cultivate, refine, and unleash the full range of their creativity and skills to convey their vision and intent to an audience in any media.
Vision
To engage the young people of the Rio Grande Valley through the unit’s Theatre program and similar activities by not only offering opportunities to perform in productions dedicated to their creative interests and potential career goals but to provide entertainment, education, and enlightenment for local audiences and students.

Program Modality: Campus
The Bachelor's degree in Theatre allows undergraduates the opportunity to perform, design, educate, and produce in the areas of theatre and film. The program provides the facilities, faculty, curriculum, and opportunity for students to focus on acting, directing, writing, design, costuming, cinematography, editing, or education. The program offers several concentrations.
The Department of Theatre is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).

The Bachelor’s degree in Theatre (with EC-12 certification) allows undergraduates the opportunity to perform, design, educate, and produce in the areas of theatre and film. The program provides the facilities, faculty, curriculum, and opportunity for students to focus on acting, directing, writing, design, costuming, cinematography, editing, or education.
UTRGV is approved by the State Board of Educator Certification to recommend students who complete all requirements of this degree for teaching certification.

Undergraduate Minors
Summer Camp

South Texas Remarkably Inventive Vaquero Ensemble (S.T.R.I.V.E) was founded in June of 2010 PACT, now renamed STRIVE in 2023. STRIVE is a three-week summer camp for children ages 7 through 14. Camp sessions run three or four hours per day. The mission of STRIVE is to build and perpetuate children’s theatre in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas by providing theatre training for children in at least twelve different teaching areas, as follows: improvisation and imagination, language and communication, creative problem solving, mental concentration and memorization, vocal articulation and projection, movement skills, emotional expression, acting in an ensemble, and technical theatre training.
Note: STRIVE summer camp will not be avalaible summer 2026, it will return in summer 2027.
