RGV Farmer Survey
Researchers at UTRGV have started working with farmers to study how to best implement these practices. But little is known about the human dimensions of farmer-government relations involved in doing so. This study uses a survey of farmers in the Rio Grande Valley to examine the willingness of farmers to participate in government regulatory programs, their understanding of the global climatic implications of their practices (from both the mitigation and adaptation perspectives), the incentives and other drivers that would motivate farmers to change their agricultural practices, and the implications of the USDA’s initiative for growers of under-represented populations.
The Faculty Seed Grant sponsored this survey. RGV farmers who own a farm in RGV will receive a mail invitation to participate in the survey over the December-January holidays. CSRPA will follow up with a phone-email mixed mode survey in the spring. This project was approved by UTRGV IRB (IRB-24-0238).
