Become a Mentor
Empower the Next Generation of Vaqueros
The EmpowerU Mentorship Program connects UTRGV students with alumni and professional mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and insight as students prepare to take their next steps beyond the classroom.
Facilitated by the Career Center, EmpowerU offers alumni a meaningful way to give back—by supporting students in their personal and professional development.
The program is hosted through 12twenty and will kickoff Fall 2026.
- One Academic Semester Commitment
Mentors and mentees are paired for one semester (approximately 8–10 weeks). - Four or More Meetings
Participants meet at least four times during the semester, either in person or virtually, to discuss goals, challenges, and career pathways. - Goal-Based Guidance
Mentorship focuses on career exploration, professional growth, and confidence building—helping students gain real-world perspective.
Note: EmpowerU is not a job placement program. It is a relationship-based experience that fosters personal and professional development through authentic conversation and connection.
As a UTRGV alum or professional, your insight and experience can make a lasting difference.
By becoming a mentor, you can:
- Give back by sharing your career journey, lessons learned, and professional wisdom.
- Help students gain clarity and confidence as they explore potential career paths.
- Strengthen your connection to UTRGV and the growing network of Vaquero professionals.
EmpowerU provides tools and guidance to help mentors and mentees create a meaningful and productive experience.
