Mission Statement
The primary goal of our surgical residency program is to produce outstanding general surgeons with the knowledge, experience, and technical skills to perform at the highest level as both clinicians and academicians. Our program is dedicated to training compassionate, socially conscious surgeons who serve as leaders in caring for border and other underserved communities. Our graduates will be expected to have maturity, personal skills, and ethical standards to become respected and productive members of the surgical profession. Graduating residents will be adept providing comprehensive care to the patient with surgical disorders of the abdomen and its contents, the alimentary track, skin, soft tissues, and breast, endocrine, and trauma. They will also develop proficiency in the evaluation and management of oncologic, vascular, pediatric, and intensive care disorders. They will acquire knowledge and experience or the assessment and emergency surgical stabilization and management of cardiothoracic, urologic, gynecologic, neurologic, otolaryngologic systems and indications for specialty consultations.
