Scholarships are an excellent way to help support your undergraduate or graduate education at The University of Rio Grande Valley. They are a form of financial assistance that does not require repayment or employment and are awarded based on merit, need, or a combination of the two. Scholarships are highly competitive and have specific eligibility criteria such as GPA, type of major, entrance exam scores, etc. They are available from federal, state, institutional, and private sources such as corporations, foundations, and organizations. Some Scholarships have their own separate application and deadlines, usually reflecting the values and purpose of the donor or program.
Learn More About Policies that Effect a Student Scholarship
It is a federal financial aid policy not to award students in excess of their needs or overall cost of attendance (COA). Students who have received aid (including institutional, state, federal, and private sources) in excess of their need or COA will have any UTRGV institutional scholarship(s) reduced or canceled. In addition, the Scholarship and Enrollment Communications Office may substitute a scholarship if a more favorable funding source is identified.
A person is NOT eligible for a scholarship awarded by an institution if the person is related within the third degree of consanguinity to a current member of the governing board of the institution or system (i.e., "Regent") administering or originating the scholarship.
