Staff/Faculty
Staff and Faculty are not immune to power-based violence in the workplace or in the community at large. More than 1 in 5 American adults report having experienced sexual harassment at work at some point in their career. Less than a third of adults who experienced sexual harassment felt they could report the harassment without fear of retaliation (Edison Research, 2018). 1 According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 16,890 workers in the private industry experienced trauma from nonfatal workplace violence in 2016. 2
Incidents of violence at home can also impact the workplace. A survey of American employees found that 44% of full-time employed adults personally experienced domestic violence’s effect in their workplaces, and 21% identified themselves as victims of intimate partner violence 3
