Graduate Dean’s Traditional Scholarship

The Award:

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s Graduate College is pleased to announce the Graduate Dean’s Scholarship for all the traditional degree programs (16-week courses) for all disciplines. This is a one-time $2,000 award and both domestic and international students may qualify.

Eligibility:

  • Newly admitted master’s or doctoral student (degree-seeking), in any discipline.
  • Studying in a master’s or doctoral program.
  • Unconditionally admitted.
  • Enroll in a minimum of 6 semester hours in the first semester.

*Note: This scholarship may not be combined with any other scholarship offered by the Graduate College such as the Sustainability Fellows or the UTRGV Employee Scholarship. The only exception is the GRE/GMAT Test Fee Scholarship. The award is distributed in two academic years. $1,000 is the first year and $1,000 in the second year.

The Summer I 2021 scholarship application is available online at this link here.

The Summer II 2021 scholarship application is available online at this link here.

Deadline:

  • Summer I 2021 - May 25th, 2021
  • Summer II 2021 - July 5th, 2021

Selection Process:

Applications will be evaluated by the Graduate College Scholarship Committee.  Scholarships will be awarded until funds are exhausted so it is important that you submit your graduate application and your scholarship application, as soon as possible for the best chance at receiving this scholarship. 

Additional Information:

If you are selected to receive this scholarship it will be applied to your account by no later than the 12th class day and will be visible on your ASSIST account.

If I am admitted conditionally will I qualify for the Graduate Dean’s Scholarship?
No, you must be admitted unconditionally in order to qualify for the Graduate Dean’s Scholarship.

Can the Graduate Dean's Scholarship be combined with any other scholarship offered by the Graduate College?
No, this scholarship may not be combined with any other scholarship offered by the Graduate College such as the Sustainability Fellows or the UTRGV Employee Scholarship. The only exception is the GRE/GMAT Test Fee Scholarship.

When and how will the Graduate Dean’s Scholarship be distributed?”
The award will be distributed in two academic years. $1,000 in the first year and $1,000 in the 2nd year. If you were awarded this scholarship it will be applied directly to your tuition and fees, within your UTRGV account no later than the 12th class day.

Can I be considered for the Graduate Dean’s Scholarship if I am applying into a Doctoral program?
Yes, as long as you are a newly admitted doctoral student and are not receiving any other scholarship from the graduate college.

Can I apply for this scholarship each semester?
No, this is only a one time scholarship awarded to newly admitted graduate students.
