At UTRGV, leadership isn’t a title—it’s an opportunity to build your voice, your values, and your vision for the future. Our leadership programs are designed to help students explore who they are, what they care about, and how they want to create change—on campus and in the world. 

Through workshops, community projects, retreats, and peer-led learning, students gain real-life experience, develop transferable skills, and join a supportive network of changemakers. 

These programs should be presented as one connected leadership pathway rather than three separate initiatives.

Students may enter the pathway at different points, but together the programs create a progression from leadership discovery to skill development to broader leadership engagement, connection, and recognition.

Programs You Can Join

NextGen Leaders

NextGen Leaders serves as the entry point into leadership development. Through workshops offered throughout the academic year, students explore their strengths, leadership potential, campus opportunities, and foundational leadership skills. The program is especially designed for students with little or no prior leadership experience.

Leadership Labs

Leadership Labs offers focused, hands-on workshops where students practice leadership skills in realistic academic, professional, campus, and community scenarios. Each workshop emphasizes skill application, feedback, reflection, and action planning.

Vaqueros Leadership Conference

The Vaqueros Leadership Conference brings together students from across campus for educational sessions, networking opportunities, and leadership development workshops.

The conference serves as both a high-impact leadership development experience and a platform for students to connect leadership learning to action.

National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS)

NSLS is the largest accredited leadership honor society in the U.S., offering a national network of peers, professional development, and exclusive resources to help students thrive. Members are selected based on academic excellence and gain access to:

  • Leadership training and certification
  • Speaker broadcasts from world leaders
  • Scholarships, success coaching, and job opportunities
  • A personalized recommendation letter upon completion
