Principal Certification ACP - Accelerated Online Program

This course is designed for aspiring Texas principals in Educational Leadership. The course highlights the importance of building strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners through effective communication, consensus-building, and inviting practices. Through practical application and reflective practice, candidates will develop the skills necessary to engage all stakeholders in the ongoing improvement of their school community. Additionally, this course provides a strong emphasis on ethical leadership. Centered around the Texas Educators’ Code of Ethics (TAC Chapter 247), the course prepares candidates to implement campus policies and procedures that ensure compliance with ethical standards among all personnel. Candidates will learn to model and promote the highest standards of conduct, ethical principles, and integrity in every aspect of decision-making, actions, and behavior. Prerequisite: Admission into the ACP Principal program.

This course emphasizes the principal’s role in managing instructional programs, understanding relevant laws and policies, and leading the supervision and improvement of classroom instruction in both elementary and secondary schools. The course also explores how principals support differentiated instruction for all student groups, including those in special programs such as Bilingual/English Second Language, Gifted and Talented, Special Education, and CTE. This course will also emphasize the importance of mental health and substance abuse and how principals can provide support to students and staff. Prerequisite: Admission into the ACP Principal program.

This course provides aspiring school leaders with the skills to develop and sustain a shared campus vision that fosters a positive culture, high-quality instruction, and continuous improvement. Participants learn to use data to guide strategic planning, support teacher growth through coaching and professional development, and promote the achievement of all students. Emphasis is placed on effective communication, collaborative leadership, resource allocation, and reflective practices to build strong relationships with stakeholders and lead successful school improvement efforts. Prerequisite: Admission into the ACP Principal program.

This course focuses on analyzing and interpreting campus data for decision-making to promote the success of all children, and on studying human resources and school budgeting functions with an emphasis on understanding and applying local district and campus practices, e.g., recruitment and retention. Special emphasis will be on developing action plans to meet student performance goals. Additionally, the course focuses on the development of educators as leaders in assessment, research, and evaluation. Applicable laws, policies, and regulations, including local, state, and federal accountability standards, will be emphasized. Prerequisite: Admission into the ACP Principal program.

The principal leadership seminar and practicum course concurrently offers a field-based course/practicum in which students practice competencies and theories acquired as they assume responsibilities associated with instructional leadership at a school. This course requires a minimum of 80 hours of field experience. This course will also provide state certification exam preparation, guidance, and advisement. The course work reflects best practices in principal leadership.

This course is a field-based course/practicum in which students practice competencies and theories acquired as they assume responsibilities associated with being an instructional leader at a school. This course requires a minimum of 80 hours of field experience and 3 formal observations. Students must have attempted the 268 Exam and submitted PASL I, II, and III. Prerequisites: Earned grade credit for EDUL 6390 with a grade of A-C and attempted 268 and submitted PASL I, II, III.
