“Last year, I remember feeling unaccomplished with my life and nothing was going my way. Hopeless, I reminded myself that “sometimes good things have to fall apart to make way for better things.” I had set a goal for myself to get a new job in my career field by 2018. The UTRGV Street Team was a perfect fit for me since it was a job I wanted a career in the future. I am able to learn how to handle events, work with other people in the community, and improve my creative skills. As well, I work with a team of highly talented individuals who each bring their unique characteristics forward and push me to better myself. They have all shown me about the importance of team work and learning how to communicate better with the community.”
“As for my future, I don’t have one career goal because I know myself, I want to do everything and help everyone. If I can hope for anything in the future, it would be for a career related to communications while helping the environment. I want to help come up with solutions to our current environmental state, weather that involves working for a non-profit, teaching the next generation, or running for office I know that my choices are already leading me on the right path. The UTRGV Street Team has helped me return to the person I once was, an optimistic individual passionate about saving the world.”

Being a part of the UTRGV street team is more than just attending events; it’s about challenging yourself, networking, and inspiring confidence. As a mass communications major, joining the street team was just the right position to gain real experiences within a marketing and communications department. Before joining, I felt as if I was losing touch with my creative side, but as a UTRGV Street Teamer, I am able to explore and be inspired every week with the new challenges and projects that come our way. I couldn’t be more grateful for the people that I’ve met so far and the new experiences I have gained.

Hello everyone! My name is Ricardo Galvan. I am currently a sophomore pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus in marketing, and a minor in graphic design. I am also a proud member of the UTRGV Street Team. I am originally from Tampico, Mexico, and as an international student, entering college was a big challenge for me. Getting to know another culture, meeting new people, and having to be more independent was truly overwhelming at first. So far, I believe the experience and the opportunity of being here at UTRGV has been completely worth it. In one year I have grown so much since I have become involved with school organizations, attended professional workshops, and started working with the University Marketing and Communication department. In my free time, I enjoy watching films, traveling, and going out with my friends. I consider myself a very fun, organized, passionate, open-minded, and goal-oriented person.

"At the end of 2018, I began to work on things I wanted to improve in 2019. I focused on what it meant to be an artist. I reminded myself to love others as well as myself and I applied to become a member of the UTRGV Street Team. At the start of 2019, I had high hopes for myself and my career. Now I have a wonderful job and I am surrounded by people I love. Although I have had my fair share of issues coming into 2019, I constantly remind myself that mental health and dexterity are the key to maintaining balance. I know that I want to create things that make people question their ideals and art that challenges society and culture. I feel that the artists I study beside, as well as the people I work with, are the fuel to that fire. I am studying graphic design, and God willing, will strive for a master’s degree in an artistic concentrated field in the future. I believe my new position as a Street Team member is allowing me to break out of my shell and achieve a new level of confidence."
