Art History Minor
The minor in art history is an exciting minor to learn more about the history of art and art theory in Western and Non-Western visual cultures. This minor requires 18 credit hours in art history, or 6 classes. It consists of 6 hours in core classes and 12 hours in electives. You can chose 12 hours, or 4 courses, in any art history courses from the selections below. The are history minor requirements that can also be fulfilled during study abroad to Peru during the summer.
The Art History Minor is open to any undergraduate student at UTRGV. Pursuing a global and multicultural approach to the understanding of the visual arts, the Minor introduces students to diverse visual cultures throughout history and around the world. It furthermore equips students with the basic skills, methodologies, and theories to study these cultures.
The Art History Minor complements several majors, adding a visual arts perspective to the study of any field in the humanities (anthropology, history, languages, philosophy, psychology, music, etc.). Moreover, it can enrich the knowledge and skills of students majoring in Engineering, Medicine and other fields, because it allows students to perfect their visual analysis and observation skills, their ability to think critically, as well as their communication skills.
Coursework includes six (6) credit hours in core courses and twelve (12) credit hours in electives for a total of eighteen (18) credit hours.
