Intent to Submit a Proposal
Sponsored Program Intake (SPI) Form
The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) uses the Automated Research and Grants Organizer (ARGO) Sponsored Program Intake (SPI) form for all external funding requests. The SPI is available to all faculty and delegated staff who prepare and submit research proposals. ARGO processes more than 500 funding applications each year.
Any request for external funding that meets the definition of a sponsored project—regardless of type or requestor (faculty, staff, or students) must be initiated through OSP using the ARGO SPI form.
This requirement applies to a wide range of funding actions, including:
- New award agreements: Initiating a new funding arrangement with a sponsor.
- Competing renewals: Resubmissions for continued support that compete with new proposals.
- Any new funding mechanism that meets the criteria for a Sponsored Project under UTRGV policy ADM 07-200.
Funding mechanisms vary, and the Division of Research is available to discuss specific situations as needed.
All proposals must undergo the institutional approval process before submission to a sponsor. This review is required because scopes of work, financial commitments, deliverables, and compliance obligations often require additional endorsements. This process ensures that submissions align with university policy, sponsor requirements, and regulatory standards.
