CIC Programs
The "Be Your Own Boss Boot Camp" is a 7-week program designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs turn their business ideas or side hustles into successful ventures. Through hands-on workshops, you'll learn essential skills like understanding your target market, pricing your product, identifying your competitive edge, and effectively pitching your business idea. Whether you're just starting or refining a concept, this boot camp will give you the confidence and tools to evaluate your idea's viability and execute your vision. Who Should Apply?
- UTRGV Students: If you're a UTRGV student with a passion for entrepreneurship or a budding business idea, this boot camp is for you. Students from all majors and classifications are welcome to apply.

The Pitch Academy is a transformative four-day intensive workshop designed to equip entrepreneurs with the skills needed to raise capital and deliver compelling pitches. Participants will engage in interactive sessions focused on crafting impactful pitches, understanding investor expectations, and refining scalable business models. Local angel investors and industry experts will provide valuable insights, while dynamic speakers will cover essential topics like financial projections, storytelling techniques, and lessons from entrepreneurs who have both succeeded and failed in pitching. Entrepreneurs also benefit from personalized, one-on-one mentorship. The program culminates in an opportunity to pitch directly to investors at the Rio Grande Valley Angel Network, offering a real chance to secure funding and accelerate business growth.
Who Should Apply?
- Near-Investable Entrepreneurs: Individuals or teams who have a developed business plan and model, and are nearing the stage of seeking investment from angel investors or banks. A solid financial plan is preferred but not required. This program is intended as the final step before approaching potential investors.
- Growth-Ready Business Owners: Entrepreneurs with established businesses who are preparing to scale and need to refine their pitch for potential investors.
- Innovators with a Validated Concept: Those with a solid business plan and model, looking to enhance their pitch and secure funding. Having a financial plan is preferred.
- Ambitious Founders: Entrepreneurs who have moved beyond the idea stage and are ready to engage deeply in pitch preparation to attract investment. A financial plan is preferred but not mandatory.
- Students: Aspiring entrepreneurs who have a well-developed business plan or startup and are seeking to refine their pitch and secure funding. A financial plan is advantageous.
- Faculty and Staff: University members with intellectual property (IP) and a developed business plan, looking to polish their pitch and gain investment. A financial plan is preferred.
- Community Members: Local entrepreneurs and innovators who have a solid business model and are seeking final preparation before engaging with investors or banks. A financial plan is preferred.

This is a mentoring service that provides students access to a network of mentors and subject matter experts.
The CIC Student Ambassadors are an integral part of our team, serving as the face of the UTRGV Center for Innovation and Commercialization (CIC) on campus and in the community. Through this role, ambassadors gain valuable experiential learning by supporting all CIC initiatives, actively engaging with students, faculty, and staff to raise awareness about CIC offerings and the UTRGV Blackstone LaunchPad. They help promote CIC initiatives through campus events, classroom presentations, and community outreach. Additionally, ambassadors create and manage social media content, broadening the reach of CIC activities and fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across the university.
Who Should Apply:
- Passionate Leaders: Undergraduates with a strong interest in entrepreneurship, innovation, and community engagement.
- Effective Communicators: Individuals who are confident in presenting ideas and interacting with diverse groups.
- Proactive Organizers: Those who are enthusiastic about managing social media, planning events, and contributing to a collaborative environment.
- University Community Members: Undergraduate students from any discipline who are committed to promoting the CIC and its programs within the UTRGV community.
