Girl Scout Troop 312

On June 18, 2018 CHAPS Program Manager Roseann Bacha-Garza and CHAPS Program Graduate Assistant Emily Gray met with Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas’ Troop 312 in McAllen to work on their badge for the Rio Grande Valley Civil War Trail.  The girls decided to follow the “Exploring the Civil War Trail Traveling Trunk” activity in order to earn their badges.  The girls came prepared with their take home camp life activity ahead of time by baking hard tack and brought it to the meeting for discussion.  The girls divided themselves into groups and each took one of the educational posters to analyze and prepare their group presentation.  The chosen topics were Civil War Camp Life and Flags Along the Rio Grande.  The girls examined all of the items in the trunk and dressed up in Union and Confederate uniform jackets and hat and as a camp nurse as well.
