Welcome to the UTRGV Bursar Office Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. This resource is designed to provide answers to common questions regarding student billing, tuition and fee payments, payment plans, refunds, and other account-related services.

Our goal is to help you quickly find the information you need to manage your student account. If you do not find the answer to your question, please contact the UTRGV Bursar Office during regular business hours. Our staff is happy to assist you.

Students can pay their tuition in person at the Bursar Office, by mail or online. Please refer to our Methods of Payment page for more information.

Specific due dates are published on the UTRGV Billing Information page for each term. Students are encouraged to regularly check their student online bill for balances and student email for billing notifications.

If payment is not received in our office or posted online by close of business on the published due date, students will risk having their classes canceled.

Yes, the Institutional Payment Plan (IPP) is available to eligible students during the Fall and Spring semesters only.

For additional information about eligibility, enrollment, and deadlines, please visit the Institutional Payment Plans page for more information.

Yes, another individual may make a payment on your behalf.

Please note that, due to student privacy regulations, the UTRGV Bursar Office can only discuss account information with an authorized user. If the person making the payment is not an authorized user, they may still submit a payment, but we will be unable to discuss your account details with them.

To ensure a smooth transaction, please have the individual ready with:

  • Your student ID number
  • The payment amount
  • The term the payment should be applied to (for example, Fall 2026)

Students can add, remove, and manage Authorized Users through the myUTRGV ASSIST portal. For step by step instructions, please visit the Authorized Users: Account Access and Management page on our website.

A High Assurance (HA) Hold applies to all incoming students who did not present two of the required forms of ID as part of the High Assurance Authentication process during "New Student Orientation".

To remove the hold, students must present valid identification in person at the UTRGV Bursar Office. One Primary ID and one Secondary ID are required.

Primary Identification:

  • Driver's License
  • Passport
  • State-Issued ID Card
  • Military ID Card

Secondary Identification:

  • Social Security Card
  • Voter Registration Card
  • Credit or Debit Card
After UTRGV staff verify your identification, the hold will be removed automatically. Please allow a few minutes for the system to update and reflect the change on your account.

The High Assurance (HA) hold will prevent students from requesting the emergency loan. Hold should not prevent registration, grades, or transcripts.

The DB (Age Verification Required) hold applies to all incoming students under the age of 18. Minors interested in requesting the online Payment Plan must visit the Bursar Office in person accompanied by an adult/guardian. Bursar Office will manually generate the Payment plan and have both parties involved sign the promissory agreement.

Hold would be removed from the account as soon as the student turns 18 years of age.

The DB (Age Verification Required) hold will prevent students from requesting the online Payment Plan. Hold should not prevent registration, grades, or transcripts.
