Dr. Bernard Fongang selected to participate in the Scholarships to Enhance and Empower Diversity Program (SEE-Diversity)
Dr. Bernard Fongang, assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and one of our RGV AD-RCMAR Scientist was one of the five junior faculty to attend the 2021 SEE-Diversity workshop at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) on August 27-September 2, 2021.
The program Scholarships to Enhance and Empower Diversity (SEE-Diversity) is a privately funded program whose goal is to increase the successful transition to and retention of diverse, early career neuroscientists into academic positions. The program leverages intellectual and scientific resources of the MBL to provide diverse Ph.D. neuroscientists with long-term mentoring and professional enrichment, with a particular emphasis on assistance with preparation, submission and revision of career development and research grant applications to NSF and NIH.
The basis for Dr. Fongang’s selection for this program stems from his pilot research at the RGV AD-RCMAR. His current pilot project aims to study the association between the gut microbiome, neurocognitive tests, and genetic predisposition to dementia.
We congratulate Dr. Fongang for this award, and we hope this program will open more opportunities for supporting the development of his career in minority aging research and dementia.
