Moving to the Valley?
![]() |
Welcome to the Rio Grande Valley! In fact, the extreme southern tip of Texas is not a valley, but an alluvial floodplain and ancient delta of the Rio Grande. The largest cities are Brownsville, Edinburg, Harlingen, and McAllen. The four counties that comprise the Rio Grande Valley, or RGV for short, are Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy. Agriculture, tourism, and education are main drivers of the economy of the RGV, and the area benefits from mild, sub-tropical weather most of the year.
Many students coming from other parts of Texas or from out of state may be unfamiliar with the RGV. One of the best ways to find information not available on websites is to speak with other students!
