Professional Workshops

The MECIS Center will organize semi-annual workshops and one-on-one consultations for all interested undergraduate and graduate minority students at UTRGV to (1) help them learn to establish career goals within and beyond academia, e.g., applying to doctoral schools and to STEM careers, (2) develop skills needed to achieve their career goals, including graduate school application preparation, resume writing, job hunting skills, and interview skills, (3) orient them to identify different national fellowships, e.g., the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP), the USDOT Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program (DDETFP), and the DoD Smart Scholarship Program, and (4) prepare them for competitive fellowship applications through iterative feedback from the Center faculty and past successful applicants.
Anyone interested in STEM education, including teachers, administrators, home-schooling parents, STEM/CTE coordinators and UTC coordinators are welcome to attend. The cost of this one-day workshop is $70. Attendees will receive:
- Enrollment in the one-day STEM workshop,
- All levels of the developed UTCRS K-12 STEM Curricula,
- Lunch and snacks throughout the day,
