Am I Eligible to Apply?
The UTRGV's GSP will train four multidisciplinary cohorts of 12 student scholars each year. It is a campus wide program open to students from any major who have achieved the following benchmarks:
- a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Sophomore or Junior standing with at least 12 credit hours completed at UTRGV
- Completion of two classes from any discipline focusing on the Gulf region and/or on environmental, ecological, and social issues. These may include standing courses (e.g. SAFS 1301 "Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture", ENST 1301 "Introduction to Environmental Studies", ENVIR 2302 "Environment and Society", MASC 2301 "Introduction to Mexican American Studies") and "Special Topics" courses.
Additional Information:
- Participating students will have to enroll in UNIV 4000 "Directed Research" in the Spring/Summer/Fall.
- Students will also receive financial support in the form of scholarships ($500 per term).
- Six students who successfully complete the program will be invited to function as GSP Ambassadors during the next cohort GSP experience. These students will receive financial support ($1,000) and a lapel pin.
