Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)

The Medical College Admission Test® (MCAT®), developed and administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), is a standardized, multiple-choice examination created to help medical school admissions offices assess your problem solving, critical thinking, and knowledge of natural, behavioral, and social science concepts and principles prerequisite to the study of medicine. (https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-medical-school/taking-mcat-exam/ ).  The MCAT consists of the following sections:  Physical Sciences, Verbal Reasoning, Biological Sciences, Psychological, Social and Biological Foundations of Behavior.

MCAT Prep Courses at UTRGV

MCAT Preparation courses are offered year round at the UTRGV Brownsville campus. These preparation courses are self-paced, live online, and in-person, and teach all the concepts a student needs to master each MCAT subject.  Two MCAT Preparation Courses are offered on the UTRGV Edinburg campus every year.  The spring prep course begins in January and runs through the end of March, in preparation for April MCAT test dates.  Applications for the spring course become available in November preceding the course, with notices of acceptance sent by mid-December.  The summer prep course begins in mid-May and runs thru the end of July, in preparation for August MCAT test dates.  The application for the summer course becomes available in April, with notices of acceptance sent by mid-May.

 Students may request MCAT Prep Course applications from Maria T. Montaño, Sr. Program Coordinator, at maria.montano@utrgv.edu. Hard-copy applications will be made available in the Special Programs Office (ESCNE 1.352) and in the Premed Resource Room (ESCNE 1.346).
