Welcome to Your Future at UTRGV!

Congratulations on starting your online educational journey at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley! Explore our award-winning online graduate programs and take the next step in pursuing your passion.

Traditional Online Programs

Our Traditional Online Programs are designed to offer you the flexibility to pursue your graduate degree without putting your life on hold. Here's what you can expect:

Structure: These programs follow the standard academic calendar, with courses offered over a 16-week semester. UTRGV operates on a four-semester schedule: Fall, Spring, Summer I, and Summer II, allowing you to plan your studies around your personal and professional commitments.

Faculty Interaction: You'll have access to the same expert faculty as on-campus students. Instructors are available for virtual office hours, discussion forums, and one-on-one communication to support your academic success.

Time Commitment: Expect to dedicate around 10-15 hours per week per course. This time includes attending online lectures, completing readings, participating in discussions, and working on assignments. For example, if you're taking two courses in a semester, you should plan to set aside 20-30 hours weekly to stay on track.

Accelerated Online Programs (AOP)

Our Accelerated Online Programs are perfect for students looking to fast-track their education without sacrificing quality. Here’s how they work:

Structure: These programs are designed around a 7-week module system, offering six modules per year: Fall Module I, Fall Module II, Spring Module I, Spring Module II, Summer Module I, and Summer Module II. This structure allows you to complete your degree in a shorter timeframe compared to traditional programs.

Time Commitment: Due to the accelerated nature, the workload is concentrated, so if you’re taking two courses simultaneously, you should plan for around 30-40 hours per week. While the courses are asynchronous, allowing you to complete work at your own pace, it's essential to stay on top of the material. Many of our AOP students are employed full-time, and they successfully manage their studies alongside their careers, making it completely feasible to pursue one of these programs while working full-time.

Maria Elena Hernandez, UTRGV Accelerated Online Program Graduate
I loved the accelerated online program. If you have a packed schedule don't think it's not possible, I was able to do that with the flexibility, and I completed [the program] in just 10 months.
