What is a Non-Degree-Seeking Student?
A graduate non-degree-seeking student at UTRGV enrolls in graduate courses for professional development without pursuing a graduate degree.
Application Process
- Ensure you meet the course prerequisites.
- Confirm space availability.
- Obtain the course instructor's approval.
- Complete the application form at www.utrgv.edu/gradapply.
- Undergraduate Degree and GPA:
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or international equivalent.
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in the last 60 semester hours of your undergraduate degree.
- Graduate Degree:
- Hold a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited institution or international equivalent.
- Submit approved English Proficiency exam scores if your native language is not English.
- Refer to the English Proficiency Exam page for details.
Additional Information
- Approval is required to take courses outside your authorized discipline.
- A maximum of 6 credit hours as a non-degree-seeking student can be applied to a graduate degree upon admission as a degree-seeking student.
- Non-degree-seeking students cannot enroll in accelerated online courses.
- For educator certification courses, get approval from the College of Education and P-16 Integration Educator Preparation Office.
Continuing Enrollment:
- Meet UTRGV’s Graduate Academic Standing standards to continue in subsequent semesters.
