Why Study Spanish at UTRGV?
Globalization has intensified contact among cultures, and hence an education in multiple languages is imperative in today’s world. Pursuing a major or a minor in Spanish ensures bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate competencies while fostering critical and creative thinking skills through the study of literature, linguistics, creative writing,Spanish for healthcare-related professions, and culture. Our program promotes these skills by

Due to our unique location on the US-Mexico border, UTRGV provides an opportunity to study Spanish in a multi-cultural community that reflects an increasingly Spanish-speaking world. Our university serves a student population that is over 93% Hispanic students through faculty from diverse Spanish-speaking countries and experiences.
