Cooperative Programs

The mission of the School of Earth, Environmental, and Marine Sciences is to provide students a unique integrative education and training experience that prepares them to meet the challenges and opportunities in the multiple dimensions of contemporary earth, environmental and marine sciences. To do so, SEEMS faculty have established connections with many organizations to collaborate through cooperative programs.

NOAA CCME

NOAA CCME's (Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems) goal is to educate and train a new generation of scientists, particularly from underrepresented minority communities, in NOAA-relevant STEM disciplines and social sciences, equipped to utilize interdisciplinary approaches to address issues confronting marine and coastal communities. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems (CCME) was established in 2016 as one of the NOAA Educational Partnership Program with Minority-Serving Institutions (EPP/MSI) Cooperative Science Centers. The Center was formed to address issues confronting marine and coastal communities.

SHIP-GEO

SHIP-GEO's (Stimulating Hispanic Participation in Earth System Sciences) goal is to contribute to diversifying and reducing the predicted shortage in the US geoscience workforce (Earth, Environmental, and Marine Sciences) for the coming decade. The project’s goal will be accomplished by implementing activities geared toward student awareness, recruitment and retention, and sustaining the activities beyond the award period.
