National Search for Provost and VP for Academic Affairs Set to Launch
September 15, 2022
Dear Colleagues:
As we first announced at last week’s Fall Welcome presentations, the university is launching a national search to hire a Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Please join me in thanking Dr. Janna Arney, who for the last 2 ½ years has admirably served as both Executive Vice President (EVP) and Provost. Her dual appointment was never meant to be a long-term solution, and we both feel that the time is right to hire a Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs who can build upon the great work that has occurred over the last 2 ½ years. Dr. Arney will continue serving as our EVP and will relinquish her provost duties once the replacement is on board.
With the assistance of the Greenwood Asher search firm, we will conduct a national search for the best possible candidate. A search committee, which will be chaired by Dr. Luis Torres-Hostos, Dean of the School of Social Work, is currently being formed. The committee will be responsible for reviewing all applicants and forwarding a list of three to five candidates. We will then invite several of the proposed candidates for further interviews.
We anticipate that this search process will take about three months, but we will move forward as quickly as possible.
FALL WELCOME PRESENTATIONS
Finally, thank you to everyone who attended the Fall Welcome presentations on both our Brownsville and Edinburg campuses. It was great to conduct in-person events with our faculty and staff for the first time since the pandemic first hit. If you were unable to attend, you can view videos from both events and the presentation below.
Sincerely,
Guy Bailey
President
