Message from the President
June 22, 2017
Dear Campus Community:
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Havidán Rodríguez on his appointment as the 20th president of the University at Albany by the State University of New York (SUNY) Board of Trustees. He will begin his new role in mid-September.
We are very excited for Dr. Rodríguez for this extraordinary and well-deserved opportunity. We should all be honored and proud that one of our own was chosen for this prestigious position — widely considered one of the top jobs in American higher education.
We owe Dr. Rodríguez a tremendous debt of gratitude. He has played an integral role in the evolution of UTRGV, first serving as president ad interim for The University of Texas-Pan American during the transition to UTRGV, and most recently, as our provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs. He, his wife, Rosy, and his children, will truly be missed by the UTRGV community and the entire Rio Grande Valley community.
As we move forward, I will spend the next several weeks consulting with members of the campus community regarding the appointment of an interim to replace Dr. Rodríguez. Once the interim is in place, we will begin a national search for Dr. Rodríguez’s permanent replacement.
Furthermore, we will provide updates as the hiring process continues.
Thank you for your continued commitment to UTRGV.
Sincerely,
Guy Bailey
UTRGV President
