Freshman Orientation
Who Needs Freshman Orientation?
- Any student admitted as an incoming freshman (First-Time in College).
When Can I Sign up?
- Registration for Summer and Fall Orientation starts in mid-February.
- Registration for Spring Orientation starts in mid-October.
- You can choose from the dates shown in the reservation system.
- If you don't see a date, it might be full, for a special group, or not for your start term.
Is There a Fee for Orientation?
- Yes, it's $100 and non-refundable. Cancel 3 days before your orientation to avoid the fee. To cancel, call 956-882-4026.
What Happens if I Don't Sign Up?
- New Student Orientation is mandatory for incoming freshmen.
- Class registration takes place during New Student Orientation.
How Do I Sign Up?
- To sign up, you must be a new freshman, have your UTRGV email set up, and click on the sign-up link using your UTRGV credentials.
- Remember: Submit your meningitis vaccine proof and TSIA scores (or exemption) before orientation.
Important Vaccine Info:
- Students under 22 must show proof of a recent meningitis vaccine.
- UTRGV will offer limited vaccines at orientation, added to your bill.
To sign up for New Student Orientation, you must be admitted as an incoming freshman (First-Time in College) and have activated your UTRGV email address.

Important: To make your appointment smooth, remember to submit all important documents beforehand (like TSI scores, meningitis vaccine proof, AP Scores, or updated college transcripts). This helps avoid any delays in registering for classes.

Orientation Dates
To attend registration, you must have:
- Attempted all sections of the TSI and provided TSI scores.
- Proof of meningitis vaccination.
- All other documents necessary to complete your academic file.

Cancel My New Student Orientation Date
Please refer to your orientation confirmation email for instructions on how to cancel. If you need assistance please call 956.882.4026 or email orientation@utrgv.edu.
Students who cancel their new student orientation reservation at least three days before the orientation event will not incur the $100 fee. Students who NO SHOW or CANCEL less than three days before the event will incur the $100 orientation fee.
If a student cancels their orientation in less than three days, the student will incur the $100 fee. Students may appeal the fee by completing an orientation fee appeals form.
Students who can register for class, but do not attend an in-person orientation, will be assessed the $100 New Student Orientation fee and will be provided directions on how to complete their New Student Orientation requirements.
