Research Consultations
If you are planning a research project and would benefit from consulting with a medical librarian please submit the form below to request a consultation. After the form is submitted you will be contacted by a librarian to schedule the consultation. Please allow 2 business days for a response.
Research consultations may include topics such as:
- Building a search strategy and selecting library resources for a question/topic
- Identifying journals for publication and understanding publication options
- MEDLINE searching
- Systematic or scoping reviews
Area Health Professionals
UTRGV medical librarians are available to conduct mediated, for-fee searches of a variety of biomedical databases. Search strategies are developed by UTRGV medical librarians in consultation with the user. Results generally include citations, abstracts (when available), and/or links to other relevant resources. The turnaround time for literature searches is typically 48 hours. If search results cannot be delivered within a 48-hour time frame, the patron will be notified. Search results can be delivered via email, fax, or held for pick-up.
Unaffiliated area health professionals may request a literature search, and the following fees apply: $25 per search (cost first 30 minutes); $12.50 (cost for each additional 15 minutes).
Requests should be submitted by email to SOMLibrary@utrgv.edu or call (956) 296-1601 to speak with a library staff member in Edinburg or (956) 296-1500 to speak with a library staff member in Harlingen.
Rush requests may also be submitted via phone, email, or fax. Please call library staff to confirm the rush request was received and to get an estimated time for delivery. Additional fees may apply.
UTRGV Medical Libraries After Hours Access
UTRGV Medical Libraries after-hours access is intended for currently enrolled UTRGV graduate-level students (master's, doctoral, and beyond) in upper-level Health Sciences programs. Individuals or departments within Health Sciences may request after-hours access to the UTRGV Medical Libraries.
Access will be granted at the discretion of UTRGV Medical Libraries staff on a semester-by-semester basis. If approved, access includes the following:
- 24-hour access, Monday through Friday ONLY
- Card-swipe accessible areas are limited to the building entrance doors and library doors (card-swipe access to study rooms is NOT included)
