Purpose and Scope
Meeting the information needs of library users is integral to the mission of the UT Rio Grande Valley Medical Libraries. Within this context, the Medical Libraries provide access to computers, the internet, and electronic resources in accordance with UT System and UTRGV information technology and information security policies. Use of library technology resources is subject to institutional acceptable use and access control requirements.
Community Users / Non-Affiliated Health Professionals
Computers are not available to community users for general use.
In limited circumstances, community users and non-affiliated health professionals seeking medical information may be granted temporary, staff-mediated access on a case-by-case basis using a short-term guest account.
Guest Access Conditions
For community users and non-affiliated health professionals:
- One session per day
- Up to 2 hours
- Intended solely for accessing library resources
- Does not include printing or other extended services
- Provided under staff supervision in accordance with UT System and UTRGV IT and information security requirements
UTRGV Affiliates
Students, faculty, and staff of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley may use desktop computers in the Medical Libraries. A valid UTRGV network login is required. Printing, copying, and scanning services are available only to eligible users with active UTRGV credentials and accounts.
Visiting Medical Students
Visiting medical students should visit a library information desk to request an access code for library computers.
Visiting Medical Student Access Conditions
For visiting medical students requesting temporary computer access:
- Up to 2 hours
- Intended for academic and clinical information needs
- Printing services are not available through library-issued temporary access codes
Visiting medical students who have printing access through other institutional or program-specific credentials may use those services in accordance with applicable IT policies.
Personal Devices
Wireless access is available through the eduroam network for UTRGV affiliates using appropriate login credentials.
Print, Copy, and Scan Services
Printing services are provided through UTRGV’s centralized printing system (PaperCut / vPrint) and require an active UTRGV account and login credentials. Temporary access codes, guest accounts, and community access do not include printing privileges.

Equipment Checkout
The following equipment is available for checkout by students, residents, faculty, and staff of the UTRGV School of Medicine, subject to availability and library procedures. Use of loaned equipment must comply with applicable UT System and UTRGV information technology and acceptable use policies.
Available equipment includes:
- Windows laptops with Microsoft Office and EndNote
- Selected laptops with additional testing software
- Noise-canceling headphones
- USB-A to USB-C charging cables
- USB-C to USB-C charging cables
- USB-C to HDMI adapters
- HDMI cables
- DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
- Anatomy and pathology models
- Health education models
Additional adapters, accessories, or software configurations may be available; please check with the library information desk for current availability and specific needs.
