At The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Honors College, we are proud to support our students through a variety of scholarships that recognize academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to the community. These awards help offset the costs of tuition, fees, and books, empowering students to focus on their studies and make the most of their Honors College experience.

Available Scholarships

Rafael and Carmen Guerra Scholarships 

  • Award sizes typically range from $500 to $1,500 

Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones Scholarships 

  • Award sizes range from $500 to $1,500 
  • Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books 
  • Must be enrolled full-time (12 hours) 
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident 

R.C. and M.G. Fish Scholarship 

  • Award size $1,000 
  • For full-time freshmen 
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident 

Meadows Endowment for Honors Scholarship / Alumni 

  • Award size $400 
  • Minimum 12-hour enrollment 
  • 3.5 GPA 

J.M. Haggar Sr. Scholarship 

  • Award size $1,000 per year (renewable, up to 4 years) 
  • Need not be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident 
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA 
  • Full-time enrollment required 

Michael A. Gorena & Maria Lozano-Gorena Endowed Scholarship 

  • For Honors College students pursuing Pre-Med 
  • Maintain a 3.5 UTRGV GPA 
  • Graduated from a high school in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, Willacy, Brooks, or Jim Wells counties; first-generation college students 
  • Must be admitted to the Honors College 

Application Timeline

Applications open two weeks prior to the semester start and close on the third Friday after the semester begins.
