The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Honors College welcomes students from all majors who are ready to challenge themselves academically, grow as leaders, and make an impact.
Applications are accepted year-round and reviewed on a rolling basis. Most applicants receive a decision within two weeks.
Eligibility
Minimum GPA: 3.5/4.0
Exceptions:
- UTRGV Math & Science Academy graduates – automatic admission + 9 credit hours of honors coursework
- Recipients of UTRGV Presidential, Distinguished, Meritorious, or Luminary Scholarships – automatic admission
Who Can Apply
High School Seniors
Eligible if they meet at least one:
- GPA 3.5/4.0
- Top 10% of graduating class
Transfer Students from STC Honors Program
- May transfer up to 9 honors credit hours
- GPA 3.5/4.0
Current UTRGV Students
- 12+ completed college credit hours (excluding dual/concurrent enrollment)
- GPA 3.5/4.0

Application Requirements
- Two letters of recommendation
- At least one from a high school teacher or college faculty
- At most one from a workplace, internship, or volunteer supervisor
- Written OR video essay
- List of extracurricular activities with brief descriptions
- Transcript from current institution
