Process

The following guideline has been established to provide prospective HEP students with a comprehensive step by step guide in the application process for enrolling in HEP.

A. Attend overview session with recruiter to determine if applicant meets eligibility criteria.

  1. Prospective students will make an appointment to meet with the HEP recruiter.  Walk-in's accepted.
  2. HEP recruiter, will at this time, describe in depth the services offered by HEP, as well as the qualifications that must be met before entering HEP.

    If the prospective student meets the qualifications to enter HEP the application process will continue.

  3. Complete and submit the HEP application.
  4. Submit documentation of eligible agricultural work for past 24 months.
      • Verification for 75 days of eligible agricultural work.
      • Paycheck stubs
    • W-2 forms or tax return
    • Notarized Employment Affidavit
    • Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from school Migrant Education Program
    • Qualification verification with a WIA program.
  5. Minors must:
    • Submit parental permission (signature) from parent, guardian or adult spouse.
    • Submit original school withdrawal form.
    • Attend meeting, in the company of parent or guardian, with academic staff prior to starting HEP training services.
  6. 16- year old applicants in addition to the above must submit one or the other of the following.
    • Original referral letter from juvenile probation department; or
    • Original signed court order/referral.
  7. All applicants must provide the following forms of identification. Have a government (national or foreign) issued photo ID, such as one of the following:
    • state driver license,
    • Department of Public Safety identification card,
    • military ID,
    • passport,
    • U.S. passport card, or
    • matrícula consular;
    • Provide proof of residency in Texas, which could be a:
      • Texas driver license,
      • utility bill showing a Texas address, or
      • bank statement showing a Texas address
  8. All applicants will be administered the GED Ready Math and Reasoning through Language Arts to qualify for HEP.  Applicants have three (3) opportunities to be assessed within a fiscal year. Previous satisfactory GED scores may be submitted in lieu of the GED Ready. Low assessment scores can be waived if GED practice scores were adequate and were approved by academic staff.
  9. If prospective student’s agricultural work meets requirements and has successfully completed the assessment process, the client will meet with Counselor and Instructors to do a needs assessment and asses academic readiness and commitment to the program.

B. If the prospective applicant meets all of the above requirements in a satisfactory manner they will be enrolled in HEP and provided with a date and time to participate in New Student Orientation to be conducted by the HEP staff. New Student Orientation will include:

  1. Introduction to HEP professional staff.
  2. Review and completion of HEP Student Guide
  3. Review and completion of GED registration forms
  4. Assignment of class schedules
