Intensive English Program
The Intensive English Program (IEP) is designed for those who want to learn or improve their English language skills. Our program offers levels from Basic II to High Advanced II focusing on an integrated and immersive learning approach in grammar, speaking and listening, reading, and writing skills. Courses are taught by experienced, dynamic instructors. If the level is not available, program staff will advise on available options.
- Classes are scheduled Monday – Thursday from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
- At the end of each session, participants receive a final evaluation of their performance in the program, and those who successfully complete the requirements receive a Certificate of Completion.
Admission Requirements
- Participants must be 18 years or older and have completed high school or equivalent.
- U.S. Citizens or Resident Aliens should bring their birth certificate, resident alien card, or employment authorization letter.
- International Students must apply for an F-1 visa.
Application Process

- Pay Application Fee: $100, non-refundable
• Application information and link will be sent to participants one (1) business day after PEWD receives application payment.
• Participant will have seven (7) days to complete the Application after receiving information and link.
• $50 fee will apply after seven days - English Placement Test (EPT) & Microsoft Bookings Interview Appointment
• Placement test link and Microsoft Bookings information will be sent to participant two (2) business days after completing the application.
• Participant will have seven (7) days to complete the English Placement Test (EPT) and schedule interview via Bookings after receiving information and link.
• EPT results are valid for 6 months. - Registration
• Participant will have seven (7) days to pay for session via TouchNet after placing in a level.
• $50 fee will apply after seven days.
• If the level is not available, program staff will advise on available options.

Notes:
- Textbook fees vary depending on the level. Information will be sent via email after tuition payment has been completed.
- All new participants are required to attend mandatory orientation. Absences will be recorded as missed hours.
Meningitis Vaccine
All new participants under the age of 22 must submit evidence of receiving the meningitis vaccine or booster shot (administered within the past five years) or evidence of exemption before they can enroll. Participants must provide proof of vaccination 10 days before the first day of the program.

I-20 Eligibility Requirements
- Statement of account with sufficient funds to cover tuition, books, housing, and health insurance.
- Copy of passport (must be valid for at least 6 months)
- If requirements are met, an email with your I-20 form will be sent by one of our Designated School Officials.
- The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement requires all foreign students to complete an 1-901 fee before making an appointment at the U.S. Consulate.

- Please save and print your payment receipt.
- Complete Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application – Form DS-160
- Schedule a visa interview appointment.
- Pay the visa application processing fee of $185. Review country-specific instructions on the U.S. Embassy or Consulate website.
- The Board of Regents of The UT-System schools requires that all international students have medical insurance every session. The Board of Regents has also granted an exception for Mexican Nationals attending the Language Programs.
- Once you are approved for your F-1 visa, UTRGV PEWD will send an email with detailed information to purchase your medical insurance.
- Fee varies by session.
- Please note that participants enrolled in the Intensive English Program who successfully complete the Advanced Level may request a waiver for the English Proficiency Requirement to attend UTRGV. Please contact your UTRGV Admissions Advisor to request further information.
- In order to gain admission to an American university, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required by most universities. UTRGV offers the TOEFL test several times a year. For further information on taking the TOEFL please contact the University Testing Center at (956) 665-7570 or (956) 882-8875
Session Transfers
- Transfers to another session are Not Allowed without prior approval.
- We require a written request emailed to pewd@utrgv.edu three business days prior to the start date of the course.
- It takes five to seven business days to process refunds for credit/debit card payments.

Submit a required written request via email three business days before the program start date. Weekends are not considered. Partial refunds are not allowed.
Program Levels:
The beginner levels are designed for participants who have limited or no English language skills. Participants will be able to absorb the fundamentals of the language and gain confidence in their ability to speak and interact in an English-speaking environment. Participants who complete and meet the course requirements can move up to intermediate levels.

The intermediate levels are designed for those who can speak and understand the English language but who may need to continue building their English language skills. Participants will be able to express themselves in everyday situations, continue to acquire additional vocabulary skills, read more complex passages and answer questions about them, and construct paragraphs with correct punctuation. Participants who complete and meet the course requirements are prepared to progress to advanced levels.

The advanced levels are designed for participants who are relatively fluent and experienced in the use of English, but who may need help with fine-tuning their skills. These levels are designed to help participants express themselves effectively and successfully for academic degree work and in business settings.
