Intensive English Program


The Intensive English Language Program is designed for adult learners seeking to improve their English for academic, professional, or personal growth.

Located in South Texas’s culturally rich Rio Grande Valley, the program offers an immersive learning experience in a welcoming, multicultural environment.

Each level runs for eight weeks with 160 hours of instruction and focuses on building comprehensive language skills through a structured curriculum.

Application Process


Pay Application Fee

  • $100, non-refundable.
  • Application information and link will be sent to participants one (1) business day after PEWD receives application payment.
  • Participant will have seven (7) days to complete the Application after receiving information and link.
  • $50 fee will apply after seven days.

English Placement Test (EPT) & Microsoft Bookings Interview Appointment

  • Placement test link and Microsoft Bookings information will be sent to participant two (2) business days after completing the application.
  • Participant will have seven (7) days to complete the English Placement Test (EPT) and schedule interview via Bookings after receiving information and link.
  • EPT results are valid for 6 months.

Registration

  • Participant will have seven (7) days to pay for session via TouchNet after placing in a level.
  • $50 fee will apply after seven days.
  • If the level is not available, program staff will advise on available options.

Admission Requirements

  • Participants must be 18 years or older and have completed high school or equivalent.
  • U.S. Citizens or Resident Aliens should bring their birth certificate, resident alien card, or employment authorization letter.
  • International Students must apply for an F-1 visa.

 

International Students

  • I-20 Eligibility Requirements
    • Statement of account with sufficient funds to cover tuition, books, housing, and health insurance.
    • Copy of passport (must be valid for at least 6 months).
    • If requirements are met, an email with your I-20 form will be sent by one of our Designated School Officials.
  • SEVIS I-901 Fee
    • The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement require all foreign students to complete an I-901 fee before making an appointment at the U.S. Consulate.
    • Please save and print your payment receipt.
  • Student Visa
  • I-94
    • The I-94 permit is a record of entry for foreign nationals who have been admitted to the United States, it includes your entry date, port of entry, and visa status in which you were admitted to the US.
    • You can apply for your I-94 permit here. Review information before you start.
    • Pay the I-94 fee.
  • Medical Insurance
    • The Board of Regents of The UT-System schools requires that all international students have medical insurance every session.
    • The University of Texas System Board of Regents has granted an exception for Mexican Nationals attending English Language Programs.
    • Once you are approved for your F-1 visa, UTRGV PEWD will send an email with detailed information to purchase your medical insurance.
    • Fee varies by session.

    UTRGV English Language Proficiency Waiver

    Participants who successfully complete the Advanced Level of the Intensive English Program will have the opportunity for UTRGV Admissions to waive the English Proficiency Requirement for admission to UTRGV academic programs.
    Participants must submit their Advanced Level Certificate of Completion to their admissions advisor as part of the enrollment process for the waiver to be applied. For details, contact UTRGV Admissions.
