Degree Programs
The Dance Department at UTRGV provides a dynamic and diverse learning environment where students develop as dance artists and educators. The BFA programs in Dance emphasize training in dance technique and performance. The BA in Dance (Teacher Certification) offers students a pathway to earn teaching certification in Secondary Dance, grades 6 - 12. The BA in Dance is a liberal arts degree that offers the flexibility of study in other areas while earning a degree in dance.
Dance, Bachelor of Fine Arts
The BFA emphasizes training in dance technique and performance. This program is designed to provide students with a broad and thorough base of dance technique training and performance experience to prepare for continued study at the graduate level or to enter the dance field in a professional capacity. Acceptance into the BFA in Dance Program requires the completion of an audition process.
Dance (Mexican Dance), Bachelor of Fine Arts
The objective of this degree program is to train professionals with the skills that allow the rescue, preservation and spread of Mexican traditions and culture through the art of dance. It is designed to provide students with a broad and thorough base of dance technique training and performance experience to prepare for continued study at the graduate level or to enter the dance field in a professional capacity. Acceptance into the BFA in Dance (Mexican Dance) Program requires the completion of an audition process.

Dance (Teacher Certification), Bachelor of Arts
This degree program leads ultimately to Texas Teacher Certification, Secondary in Dance, grades 6 - 12. The Certification degree provides students with a broad preparation in all areas of dance as well as 24 hours of professional education courses. The courses required in this degree program are aligned with the state of Texas requirements for teacher certification.

The BA in Dance is a liberal arts degree designed to provide a broad foundational preparation in all areas of dance technique, choreography, performance, and the option of further study in certain dance theory areas. This program allows the flexibility of study in other areas while majoring in dance.

NOTE: Students who entered the major prior to 2019 under the discontinued B.A. in Dance Performance the older, superseded version of the BFA in Dance may still matriculate under those degree plans but are encouraged to consult their advisor concerning the merits of switching to one of the current degree plans listed on this page.
