The Dance Department at UTRGV provides a dynamic and diverse learning environment where students develop as dance artists and educators. The BFA in Dance emphasizes training in dance performance and choreographic skills.  The BA in Dance (Teaching Certification) offers students a teaching certification in Secondary Dance. 


BFA in Dance


The BFA emphasizes training in dance performance and choreographic skills. This degree is designed to provide students with a broad and thorough base of dance technique training and performance experience to prepare for continued study at the graduate level or to enter the dance field in a professional capacity

Spring 2023 BFA Audition 

The Dance Department will be holding an audition for admission into the BFA in Dance degrees on March 1, 9:30-11:00am, in HPE II #133. 
 

NOTE: Students who entered the major prior to 2019 under the discontinued B.A. in Dance Performance the older, superseded version of the BFA in Dance may still matriculate under those degree plans but are encouraged to consult their advisor concerning the merits of switching to one of the current degree plans listed on this page.


BFA in Dance (Mexican Folk Dance Concentration)

The objective of this degree is to train professionals with the skills that allows them to rescue, preserve and spread Mexican traditions and culture through the art of dance.  It is designed to provide students with a broad and thorough base of dance technique training and performance experience to prepare for continued study at the graduate level or to enter the dance field in a professional capacity.

B.A. in Dance (Teaching Certification)

This track leads ultimately to teacher certification in Secondary Dance. The Certification Track provides students with a broad preparation in all areas of dance as well as 24 hours of education courses. The courses required of this track are aligned with the state of Texas requirements for teacher certification (TExES). The Certification Track is necessary for students seeking teacher certification in dance, and is also recommended for students who are interested in teaching in the private studio setting.

B.A. in Dance

The BA provides students with broad preparation in all areas of dance such as ballet, folklorico, flamenco, and modern dance. Through this program, students will gain an in-depth understanding of dance and performance techniques while also having 18 hours of free electives to fit in a minor or further studies in another area of interest.
