Comprehensive Exams
The comprehensive examination is an important milestone in the Mathematics and Statistics with Interdisciplinary Applications PhD program. It is designed to assess students’ knowledge and preparation in core areas of mathematics and statistics before they advance further in their doctoral studies.
Students are expected to complete the comprehensive examination by the end of their second year of graduate study. Individual preparation and examination timing may vary based on a student’s academic background, coursework, and research goals.
Comprehensive Exam Areas
The following course areas are currently included as part of the comprehensive exam resources:

MATH 8330 – Linear Algebra

MATH 8352 – Analysis and Measure Theory

MATH 8365 – Advanced Probability & Statistics

MATH 8375 – Numerical Analysis
These courses form part of the core curriculum for the Mathematics and Statistics with Interdisciplinary Applications PhD program.
