Charreada and Charro Days 2024 festivities!

Dear UTRGV Community,
Charro Days is a long-standing tradition in the City of Brownsville. As part of Charro Days, UTRGV is proud to host:
Charreada
Wednesday, February 28
11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
The festival will feature performances, exhibits, and events at the following locations:
- Student Union (BSTUN) Lawn
- Dancing Horse by Charros y Vaqueros Unidos
- A joint performance by Ballet Folklórico Tizatlán de UTRGV and Brownsville Early College High School Dancing Stars
- La Lexxion will play Regional Mexican Music Performance by Mariachi 7 Leguas
- Elote Eating Contest and Huapongo Dance Competition (Attendees may register on-site.)
- Student organization fundraisers selling delicious food items
- Student Union (BSTUN) Veranda
- Art exhibitions with items from the Brownsville Historical Association, and Sculpture Club
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to dress in traditional Mexican attire.

UTRGV will participate in several Charro Days events where you can:
- Take a photo with the Vaquero Balloon during Sombrero Fest from Thursday, February 29 to Saturday, March 2.
- Cheer on UTRGV representatives in the Charro Days parades:
- The Illuminated Parade on Friday, March 1, starting at 7:00 PM, featuring La Bota (The Boot) — UTRGV’s parade float.
- The Grand International Parade on Saturday, March 2, starting at 1:00 PM, featuring La Bota (The Boot) — UTRGV’s parade float; the UniMóvil; and for the first time at this parade, the Vaquero Marching Band and UTRGV Drill Team.
- Root for UTRGV participants during the Charro Days Classic 5K Run & 1 Mile Run/Walk on Saturday, March 2, at 7:15 AM, as part of Sombrero Fest.
