UTRGV is planning Fall 2021 around your safetysuccess, and experience. After all, this is the semester we’ve been waiting for. Because a year-plus of lockdowns, physical distancing, and virtual everything has made Fall 2021 one of the most anticipated semesters in our institution’s history.

Safety First. Always.

As staff, you play a key role at this university. And while you're essential to our success, you're also critical to the health and safety of our entire UTRGV Family. To us, being on campus means everything. But getting here — and staying safe — means  we all need to do our part.

Knowing that much can happen in the coming weeks and months, the University will not hesitate to adjust our operations should guidance from local, state, and federal health officials warrant such changes.

Below you’ll find the most important things you can do to protect yourself and our campus community from COVID-19.

Campus Protocols

There are currently no local, state, or national COVID-19 health mandates that enable UTRGV to require the wearing of face coverings or vaccinations within our campus community. And while UTRGV is not currently enforcing social distancing, the University continues to strongly encourage the use of face coverings, especially in settings when distancing is not possible. Because of these limitations, we all must consider the consequences of our actions and how each choice affects ourselves, our families, friends, and colleagues.

For more on information on what UTRGV is currently enforcing and/or recommending to promote your safety, visit the  Protocols page.

Classroom and Office Safety

We realize your concerns regarding the safety of classrooms and offices as we return to full-capacity seating and building occupancy. That’s why we strongly encourage everyone who is in a classroom or indoor public space to wear a face covering at all times. We also encourage everyone who uses shared materials and equipment to further mitigate their risk of potential exposure by using the hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes that are provided in each academic and office space.

Working Arrangements

We understand that some of you may need to continue working from home based on a variety of factors, such as specific health conditions or childcare responsibilities. Please work directly with your supervisor regarding your unique circumstances or contact the Office of Human Resources at

Health Services

Your  health and  well-being are our top priority. Get top-notch healthcare when you need it, including COVID-19 vaccines and tests, at one of UTRGV’s Employee Health Clinics.

Mental Health & Well-Being

Who has time for "self-care" these days? While finding time to relax and reset may seem like a fantasy, protecting your mental health is essential to overall wellness. Whether you’re feeling anxious about going back to the office or wondering if the pandemic will ever end, being in tune with yourself can make each day a little better.

Visit our Mental Health & Well-Being page for more information on resources that can help guide you toward a greater sense of self.
